How We Rate
Every burrito we review gets the same 100-point scorecard. Five categories, each scored from 0 to 10, each worth 20 points on the final tally. Here's what we're looking for in each one.
Tortilla · 20 pts
We start with the wrap itself. A good tortilla is fresh and pliable: not burnt, not dry, not thicker than the filling. It has to hold its own through a full meal, and its flavor should support the burrito, not overpower it.
Use of Potatoes · 20 pts
The Denver breakfast burrito wouldn't be anything without its potatoes. We look for proper seasoning, never plain bag-hash-brown afterthoughts, and texture that stays interesting: crisp edges, tender middle, and enough of them to make the filling feel complete.
Texture & Balance · 20 pts
A great burrito is a balance act: wet and dry, hot and cool, soft and crisp. We check that the components are at the right temperature, that nothing drowns everything else, and that the whole thing holds together from first bite to last; nothing should end up on the plate before you're done.
Flavor · 20 pts
Meat seasoned like it was paid attention to, eggs cooked right, salsa or chile doing real work rather than sitting on top, and cheese that's part of the structure instead of an afterthought. Every component should taste like it was built to be in this burrito.
General / Overall · 20 pts
The full picture: value for the price, consistency, how it compares to the best of what Denver has to offer, and the question that matters most. Would we go back? If the answer is yes, this is where the score goes up.
And the smother question
Half the burrito world is divided over whether a breakfast burrito belongs under the smother. We don't take sides; we record the answer. Every review notes whether the burrito was smothered, and how it landed. Your mileage may vary; our data is here.
90+ is legendary. 80+ is great. We tell you where it lands.
